In memory of Steve Akhurst

A lover of football, music, wildlife and beer, Steve was a man known by everyone as a great laugh, a great friend and ab incredibly sociable and generous man. After being diagnosed with MND in 2010, he conitnued to live his life to the fullest by travelling the world and seeing all he could in the short time he had left.
Please feel free to add any stories or photos you may have of him and donate to his fund. The money goes directly to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which supported us greatly during his illness. It will also going to funding research in the hope of developing a cure, which is vital for our family.
Thankyou.

Thoughts

Such a shame that there weren't cheaper/better/easier to use camera around in the late 80s/early 90s. I will always remember Steve as a Great (Capital G) man and tell everyone (Probably bored some in the past) with tales of the days when we would go up to Upton Park midweek at the drop of a hat, winning at Highbury away whilst Julie was shopping (She'd dropped us off) and especially our day trip to Villa Park 1990/91 when despite losing 4 - 0, we were the loudest and most remembered club for ages. Oh, and the song that we sang for ages as it was overplayed then was "Whole of the Moon" by the waterboys. Your'e still remembered "Acky" and missed so much and so often. Us men don't show our feelings much but I/we do bloody miss you and those days of old. Sorry if this has gone on too much Jasmine and family. Loved you Steve. You better be being looked after up there or there will be questions asked when it's my turn,,,,, COYI

There are so many wonderful memories i have of your dad where he has made me laugh but i think the best has to be when he picked us ip from a concert at the o2 eith your mum and didnt realise there wasnt room for him in the car and therefore rode home in the boot, chatting to us through the seat and laughing uncontrollably! Brilliant! Such a character and such a contagious laugh! X

This great man was like a dad to me! I will never forget our visits to Upton Park to watch matches. How we would race him over the bridge and he would always cross the traffic lights. Then on the way home we would hear him giggling to himself and none of us would have a clue what he was laughing about! Love and miss you Steve xxx
